Using LANBak ExplorerLANBak Explorer allows an Administrator or Backup Operator full access to all files stored in the LANBak backup system. When using multiple LANBak Servers on a large network, the file system is displayed as one single large distributed space regardless of the number of servers active. There is no need to know the exact physical location of a particular file within the backup system (though this is shown within a 'Properties' dialog). The layout of LANBak Explorer is much like Windows Explorer except that there is an additional window pane used to display previous versions of any particular file highlighted. You can choose to restore current or previous versions of any file shown. LANBak Explorer:To preview a file from within LANBak Explorer, double-click its name. To restore, delete or view the properties of a particular folder or file, right-click the items name and select one of the menu options on the popup. LANBak Explorer lets you restore any file or folder within the backup system to a location of your choosing. LANBak Explorer does not check the users currently access permissions against those of the files being restored. For this reason, LANBak Explorer should only be installed on Network Administrators machines. As an added security feature, you must be a member of the Administrator or Backup Operator groups to run this application. When restoring files using LANBak Explorer, you are given the option of restoring original associated NT permissions. Reinstating NT permissions when restoring files to a different computer other than where the files originated (such as when a computer hard drive fails, for instance) is not recommended as access problems can occur due to permissions inconsistencies. If access is denied following permissions restoration, Windows Explorer can be used to reset ownership and permissions of those files if required. Running LANBak Explorer on an NT4 computerDue to differences between NTFS versions in NT4 and later operating systems, you will only be able to restore files backed-up from other NT4 computers if you run LANBak Explorer on an NT4 machine. To be able to restore all files in the backup set, regardless of which computer they were backed-up from, run LANBak Explorer on either a Windows XP, 2000 or 2003 machine. Next: Support |
