Standalone Edition

This file contains all the information you need for installing and starting WebbyFiles Standalone Edition for the Java[TM] Platform. The standalone edition does not require any web server or database since it already includes a database engine and a webserver.

The Standalone edition is therefore a ready to use package.

Overview

WebbyFiles is a Web Based File Sharing System that allows groups of users to easily share and manage a central repository of files and folders by using any standard web browser. WebbyFiles can be used as:

• A Project Repository for Team Work. You can configure the software to allocate number of projects where you provide an enviroment of shared folders, each of them with different access privileges depending on the user.
• A substitute of FTP. Some advantages of this are that you don't have to create FTP users on the server and the users don't need to install and learn to use an FTP client, thus obtaining a simpler interface for them and an easier administration for you.
• Private Download Area. You can create a number of password protected download areas for registered users.

Windows operating systems

Installation

1. Execute WebbyFiles.exe. This will unzip the webbyfiles programs in the directory you select.
2. Click on "close" when the unzipping has finished.

Starting the server

You can start the WebbyFiles server using the windows main menu -> programs -> WebbyFiles -> Start Icon

Stopping the server

You can start the WebbyFiles server using the windows main menu -> programs -> WebbyFiles -> Stop Icon

Additional Setup

There are 2 features which currently must be configured manually. These features are however optional.

• Email support: Webbyfiles allows you to send emails or notifications to other users. In order to be able to do this you must provide the email server data to webby files. This can be done as following:
  1. Open the file <WebbyFiles installation directory>\webapps\webbyfiles\WEB-INF\web.xml using any text editor (for example window's Notepad)
  2. Look for the text <param-value>[smtpServer]</param-value> and replace [smtpServer] with the name of the email server you will use. For example <param-value>localhost</param-value>.
  3. Look for the text <param-value>[emailAddress]</param-value> and replace [emailAddress] with email address the WebbyFiles system will use for sending emails. For example <param-value>webbyfiles@mycompany.com</param-value>
• Multilanguage support: Webbyfiles supports several languages apart from english, which is the default. The langauge can be configured in the following way:
  1. Open the file <WebbyFiles installation directory>\webapps\webbyfiles\WEB-INF\web.xml using any text editor (for example window's Notepad)
  2. Look for the text <param-value>english</param-value> and replace the word english with one of the following values:
  • deutsch: for german
  • dutch: for dutch
  • english: for english
  • espanol (without ñ): for spanish

If you want to run WebbyFiles in your own Application server and / or using your own database you will find more information at www.webbyfiles.com.

 

Logon to WebbyFiles

Open your browser and enter the following url http://localhost:8080/. You can then login using the

user=admin
password=admin

You can now start uploading and downloading files. The product already contains some sample directories with comments so that you can easily learn how it works. Note that all files you upload and download are located under:

<WebbyFiles installation directory>\webbyfiles\folders

Note: if you uninstall webbyfiles this directory will be deleted also !
