Thank you for downloading Gemini UDS! We hope you find the system to be everything you've ever wanted in a search tool.

Windows

• Microsoft Windows 98SE, Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 5 or later, Windows ME, Windows XP, or Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 or later
• 256MB of RAM
• Java Runtime v1.3 or later. (The default Gemini UDS distribution comes with a Java Runtime; if you download Gemini UDS without the Java Runtime, it can be downloaded separately elsewhere.)
• Broadband internet connection highly recommended

Mac OS X

• Mac OS X v10.1.3 or later with the Java 1.3.1 Update 1 installed
• 256MB of RAM
• Broadband internet connection highly recommended

Gemini UDS can also run on any number of Unix-based systems, including Linux and Solaris, although Snowtide does not officially support Gemini UDS being used on such systems.

Just a few points to keep in mind as you start to use Gemini UDS:

• Gemini currently ships with around 40 search services; however, we are actively adding more search services, which you can easily obtain by using the Search Service Updater in the Gemini preferences window. In addition, you can always add your own search services using the Search Service Wizard in the preferences window.
• You can toggle the context-sensitive help on and off by selecting the "Toggle Help Popups" menu item in the Help menu. Using this context-sensitive help is the best way to learn how to use Gemini.
• Short descriptions for each search service and content type can be viewed by selecting the "Show Tooltips" item in the Help menu.
• If your company or school requires that you connect through a proxy server, you should configure Gemini UDS to do so in the preferences under "Proxy Settings". Gemini UDS supports HTTP (web), FTP, and SOCKS v4 proxies.
• Developers: Visit our developer info center to learn how to build innovative Evaluator plugins for Gemini UDS, customized to your or your customers' needs.

Please take the time to review the Gemini UDS User's Guide that came with your copy of Gemini UDS. Doing so will make your time with Gemini UDS much more productive and pleasant.
