Working with Fragments

Fragments can be added to a map to represent features such as genes, motifs,  or subcloned fragments. This differs from inserting fragments, which is used to simulate cloning experiments and does alter the size and sequence of the map. Similarly, Removing fragments will not change the size of the map, while deleting fragments will reduce the size of the map.

You can customize a fragment's properties, such as its color, width, and direction, and change its position relative to the map.

Add or insert a fragment

To add or insert a fragment, you can either use the Plasmid Graphics Wizard, or the Plasmid Drawing Tools.

  • To use the Plasmid Graphics Wizard, simply double click on the map or select context menu "properties", then go to the second page of the wizard.

Click New... button to popup the Fragment Property Dialog.

Enter the fragment name, start and end sites, and the desired width, color, direction, etc. If you want to insert a fragment, check the Insert checkbox.
  • To use the Plasmid Drawing Tools, select the plasmid map, then choice the icon or on the Plasmid Drawing Toolbar. After you draw a fragment, BVTech Plasmid will popup the Fragment Property Dialog.
