Thank you for trying the Ez86 programmer's editor for assembly language. Using Ez86 is simple if you have used text editors before. Just a couple of things you need to know.

  • The editor is project oriented. It is NOT a file manager. It will only find files in the current directory. As such it should be installed somewhere in the path, or it is small enough to simply place a copy in your project directory.

  • Ez86 uses a .dat file to keep your place in your working files, including any other files loaded in other "windows". When you exit the program your placemarks are saved to "EZ86.DAT". In order to clear the dat file, you simply call a file from the command line.

  • If using Ez86 from a Win9x MSDOS box, you should set the properties of the MSDOS box to eliminate the Windows hot key Alt Esc. The Key Scan Utility uses this combination to exit.

  • Watch the lower line when using any utility. it will give you context sensitive help as you go.

Other information on the editor will be continually updated at the web page. Go to edit86.com or ez86.bravepages.com for the latest info.

Yes, there is a not for shareware version, and yes it is more powerful. Ez86 v1.2 is an early implentation of a larger editor project. Registered users of Ez86 receive the latest improved version.

    Why Ez86?

Because I NEEDED it. The bigger your program gets, the more you will apppreciate Ez86. Using the jump to label routine alone saves many hours thru the course of a large project without 'clogging' up the search history with label names. Each of the utilities added to the editor are designed to save you time and effort, allowing you to stay focused on writing code.

Ez86 v1.2 is an early implementation in the development of the Edit86 Pro assembly programmers editor. It is not 'crippled' in any way. It is a fully functioning editor with no known bugs. Ez86 was written entirely in assembly language using the A86 assembler. The A86 assembler was written by Eric Isaacson. More information on A86 can be found at Mr.Isaacson's web site - eji.com.

    What is Shareware ?

Shareware is "try before you buy software". If it is becoming obvious that you like a program well enough to continue using it, you are expected to pay for it. It will not delete itself after 30 days, or stop working. But if you are still using it after a reasonable trial period, buy the software. $ 30.00 is cheap for knowing that you did the right thing and I will be able to better afford time to support and improve this program.
