Launching the Instant Messenger User Interface
This section contains the following information:
Methods of Launching the Instant Messenger User Interface
The two ways to launch Sun ONE Instant Messenger are:
- Using Java Web Start (Windows and Solaris users) - You can launch the Sun ONE Instant Messenger user interface from Java Web Start (JWS), which is an application launcher for J2EE applications that are written to be web deployed. Once the Sun Java System Instant Messenger user interface launches, your browser window can be closed or used to locate other URLs without affecting the Sun ONE Instant Messenger session.
- Using the Java Plug-in (Windows users only) - You can launch the Sun ONE Instant Messenger user interface as an applet from the Java Plug-in, (which is a code extension to the browser). To keep the Sun ONE Instant Messenger session active, the browser window from which the applet was launched must remain open at all times and cannot be used to locate any other URL.
Windows users can choose to implement either the JWS or the Java Plug-in configuration. Solaris users must use Java Web Start. Contact your administrator for more details.
Note
To launch the Sun ONE Instant Messenger service in the Sun Java System Portal Server environment, click the appropriate link in the applications channel in the Sun ONE Portal Server Desktop.
