xMule uses wget to download server.met files.  In the latest VL 4.0 test release, wget is broken for me.

Instead, you'll have to go to http://emule-progect.net, go to their FAQ, and go to the section that lists server.met locations.

You'll need to manually download one and put it in your ~/.xmule directory.

After that it should work fine.
